They were Soldiers, Scottish Soldiers (Jocks) — Tribute to our recently fallen — November 2008

Our Scottish War Dead. Please rate, and comment on, this video, and forward the link to your friends. You can see more details of these Soldiers at: http://www.ntgraphics.co.uk/MilitaryAndVeterans/stirlingremembrance2008.html Music, A Scottish Soldier by Andy Stewart I wish this tribute could have been for all the recently fallen Military Personnel in the British Forces but that would have been too big. I have localised it to my part of the UK, Scotland. I am proud to be a Scot. I am equally proud to be British. I have done this small tribute for my part of the UK. Maybe you could do one for your area. I dont want to get into my personal feelings on the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Suffice to say that I am no supporter of them but this is a separate issue from supporting our troops and acknowledging their courage and sacrifice. We are the people who put our small crosses on ballot papers and now we place our small crosses on War Memorials. A New Year Thought 2009 They joined for many reasons, to march, to sail, to fly; they went where they were posted but nobody joins to die. Their leaders talk on TV; what else could we have done? but those leaders lost no daughters and none has lost a son. So here's to all our soldiers wherever they may be and here's to all their families, I raise my glass to thee. Thank you. from Nigel J.C. AYE! Freedom!
uploaded by AYEscotland at youtube.com
Hugh MacDiarmid reads Robert Burns' "Scots Wha Hae". Orchestral music: MacKenzie's Second Scottish Rhapsody, mixed with pipes and drums and folk band. From "The Bruce": "Ah, freedom is a noble thing!, Freedom makes people have liking, Freedom helps people to live, He lives easefully that freely lives." From "The Declaration of Arbroath": "For so long as a hundred of us are left alive we will yield in no least way to English dominian. We fight not for glory, nor for wealth, nor honours, but only and alone we fight for freedom which no good man surrenders but with his life. Should he turn aside from the task that he has begun and yeild Scotland or us to the English king and people, we should cast him out as an enemy of us all." Filmed at Bannockburn, Stirling, Scotland. Sculpture of King Robert the Bruce by Pilkington Jackson.

Will you stand?
uploaded by 1690Chris at youtube.com
Will You Stand? (Loyalist) (UVF) Lyrics: "Oh! Will you stand. Oh! Will you stand, With the Ulster Volunteer Force as a Patriotic band, Would you fight unto the death would you join the U.V.F, If you can you're a man then you'll stand. And when the sound of the Battle is over, It's Shoulder to Shoulder we'll stand, To remember the brave young Ulster soldiers, Who fought for the flag of the Red Hand. Oh! Will you stand. Oh! Will you stand, Would you fight for God and Ulster And to keep it British Land, With Rifle and Grenade would you serve the Old Brigade, If you can you're a man then you'll stand. And when the sound of the Battle is over, It's Shoulder to Shoulder we'll stand, To remember the brave young Ulster soldiers, Who fought for the flag of the Red Hand. Oh! Will you stand. Oh! Will you stand, Would you bear and swear allegience To the Flag of the Red Hand, Would you fight and never fear with the Ulster Volunteers, If you can you're a man then you'll stand. And when the sound of the Battle is over, It's Shoulder to Shoulder we'll stand, To remember the brave young Ulster soldiers, Who fought for the flag of the Red Hand. Oh! Will you stand. Oh! Will you stand, Would you travel the road where the brave and bold must go, Would you wear the black cockade, would you serve the Old Brigade, If you can you're a man then you'll stand. And when the sound of the Battle is over, It's Shoulder to Shoulder we'll stand, To remember the brave young Ulster soldiers, Who fought for the flag of the Red Hand."

And the band played Waltzing Mathilda
uploaded by smileynoir at youtube.com
http://www.atheturk.com In memoriam of thoses, anzacs, turks, frenchs who lost their lives in Gallipoli. The song "Waltzing Mathilda" is performed by the Pogues. When I was a young man I carried my pack And I lived the free life of a rover From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback I waltzed my Matilda all over Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun And they sent me away to the war And the band played Waltzing Matilda As we sailed away from the quay And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers We sailed off to Gallipoli How well I remember that terrible day How the blood stained the sand and the water And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell Nearly blew us right back to Australia But the band played Waltzing Matilda As we stopped to bury our slain We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs Then we started all over again Now those that were left, well we tried to survive In a mad world of blood, death and fire And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive But around me the corpses piled higher Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit And when I woke up in my hospital bed And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead Never knew there were worse things than dying For no more I'll go waltzing Matilda All around the green bush far and near For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs No more waltzing Matilda for me So they collected the cripples, the wounded, the maimed And they shipped us back home to Australia The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay I looked at the place where my legs used to be And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me To grieve and to mourn and to pity And the band played Waltzing Matilda As they carried us down the gangway But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared Then turned all their faces away And now every April I sit on my porch And I watch the parade pass before me And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march Reliving old dreams of past glory And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?" And I ask myself the same question And the band plays Waltzing Matilda And the old men answer to the call But year after year their numbers get fewer Some day no one will march there at all Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me And their ghosts may be heard as you pass the Billabong Who'll come-a-waltzing Matilda with me?
