Legend of a Mind - Moody Blues (1968)
uploaded by clotho98 at youtube.com
"Legend Of A Mind," by The Moody Blues, from their album "In Search of the Lost Chord". (1968) The song was written by Ray Thomas in tribute to LSD guru Timothy Leary, and includes a masterful flute solo performed by Thomas. Timothy Francis Leary (October 22, 1920 May 31, 1996) was an American writer, psychologist, futurist, and advocate of psychedelic drug research and use. An icon of 1960s counterculture, Leary is most famous as a proponent of the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of LSD. He coined and popularized the catch phrase "Turn on, tune in, drop out." In early 1995, Leary discovered that he was terminally ill with inoperable prostate cancer. Leary's death was videotaped for posterity at his request, capturing his final words. His last word, according to his son, Zachary Leary, was "beautiful." Seven grams of Leary's ashes were launched into space aboard a rocket carrying the remains of 24 other people including Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek), Gerard O'Neill (space physicist), Krafft Ehricke (rocket scientist), and others. A Pegasus rocket containing their remains was launched on April 21, 1997, and remained in orbit for six years until it burnt up in the atmosphere. Lyrics: Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, Takes you trips around the bay, Brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, Takes you trips around the bay, Brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Along the coast you'll hear them boast About a light they say that shines so clear. So raise your glass, we'll drink a toast To the little man who sells you thrills along the pier. He'll take you up, he'll bring you down, He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground. He flies so high, he swoops so low, He knows exactly which way he's gonna go. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. He'll take you up, he'll bring you down, He'll plant your feet back on the ground. He'll fly so high, he'll swoop so low. Timothy Leary. He'll fly his astral plane. He'll take you trips around the bay. He'll bring you back the same day. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

The Yardbirds - For Your Love

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: http://www.geocities.com/john1948ten/INDEX.html - This pivotal UK R&B outfit was formed in London in 1963 when Keith Relf (22 March 1943, Richmond, Surrey, England, d. 14 May 1976; vocals, harmonica) and Paul Samwell-Smith (b. 8 May 1943, Richmond, Surrey, England; bass), both members of semi-acoustic act the Metropolis Blues Quartet, joined forces with Chris Dreja (b. 11 November 1944, Surbiton, Surrey, England; rhythm guitar), Tony "Top" Topham (lead guitar) and Jim McCarty (b. 25 July 1943, Liverpool, England; drums). Within months Topham had opted to continue academic studies and was replaced in October by Eric Clapton (b. Eric Clapp, 30 March 1945, Ripley, Surrey, England). The reconstituted line-up forged a style based on classic Chicago R&B and quickly amassed a following in the nascent blues circuit. They succeeded the Rolling Stones as the resident band at Richmond's popular Crawdaddy club, whose owner, Giorgio Gomelsky, then assumed the role of group manager. Two enthusiastic, if low-key singles, "I Wish You Would" and "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl', attracted critical interest, but the quintet's fortunes flourished with the release of Five Live Yardbirds. Recorded during their tenure at the Marquee club, the set captured an in-person excitement and was marked by an exceptional rendition of Howlin" Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning". Clapton emerged as the unit's focal point, but a desire for musical purity led to his departure in March 1965 in the wake of a magnificent third single, "For Your Love". Penned by Graham Gouldman, the song's commerciality proved unacceptable to the guitarist despite its innovative sound. Clapton later resurfaced in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Derek And The Dominos before establishing a highly successful solo career. Jeff Beck (b. 24 June 1944, Surrey, England), formerly of the Tridents, joined the Yardbirds as the single rose to number 1 in the UK's New Musical Express chart. Gouldman provided further hits in "Heartful Of Soul" and "Evil Hearted You", the latter of which was a double-sided chart entry with the band-penned "Still I'm Sad". Based on a Gregorian chant, the song indicated a desire for experimentation prevailing in the raga-rock "Shapes Of Things", the chaotic "Over Under Sideways Down" and the excellent Roger The Engineer. By this point Simon Napier-Bell had assumed management duties, while disaffection with touring, and the unit's sometimes irreverent attitude, led to the departure of Samwell-Smith in June 1966. Respected session guitarist Jimmy Page (b. James Patrick Page, 9 January 1944, Heston, Middlesex, England) was brought into a line-up that, with Dreja switching to bass, now adopted a potentially devastating twin-lead guitar format. The experimental "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" confirmed such hopes, but within six months Beck had departed during a gruelling USA tour. The Yardbirds remained a quartet but, despite a growing reputation on the American "underground" circuit, their appeal as a pop attraction waned. Despite late-period collaborations with the commercially minded Mickie Most, singles, including "Little Games" (1967) and "Goodnight Sweet Josephine" (1968), failed to chart. The disappointing Little Games was denied a UK release but found success in the USA. They followed with two bizarre successes in America: "Ha Ha Said The Clown" and Nilsson's "Ten Little Indians". When Relf and McCarty announced a desire to pursue a folk-based direction, the band folded in July 1968. Page subsequently founded Led Zeppelin, Dreja became a highly successful photographer while the remaining duo forged a new career, firstly as Together, then Renaissance. The allure of the Yardbirds still flourishes and they remain acclaimed as early practitioners of technical effects and psychedelic styles. The "blueswailing" Yardbirds have maintained enormous credibility as true pioneers of primal British R&B, classic experimental pop and early exponents of heavy rock. Ultimate spinach-mind flowers

made with some artpics of my own!!!hope youll like it! Ultimate Spinach is an obscure 60s Psychedelic/Hard Rock/Blues group from Boston, Massachusetts, similar to the likes of The Lost, Front Page Review, Country Joe & the Fish, Orpheus, Mandrake Memorial, Earth Opera, Boston Tea Party, The Beacon Street Union, and Jefferson Airplane. Ultimate Spinach was formed in 1967 and comprised keyboardist/guitarist Ian Bruce-Douglas and singer Barbara Hudson. The music is undeservedly forgotten. Despite suffering claims of dishonesty, they published technically sophisticated but also musically fascinating albums. On Ultimate Spinach (MGM, 1968) the standout cuts are Ballad Of The Hip Death Goddess, with an instrumental interval for theremin (an early electronic instrument), feedback and reverberation, the psychoanalytic folk-blues PlayEgo Trip, the 4-part suite PlaySacrifice of the Moon, as well as PlayYour Head Is Reeling and the Frank Zappa-esque — but less nasty than he typically was — Plastic Raincoats. While there was a rumor that Bruce-Douglas had been taken to court by Country Joe McDonald for having copied The Masked Marauder in his PlayBaroque #1, this was pure fantasy. More complex compositions such as the suite in four movements Genesis of Beauty and PlayFragmentary March of Green, two pieces soaked in mysticism, enliven the second album Behold & See (MGM, 1968). The tracks Jazz Thing and Mind Flowers experimented with unusual tempos and atmosphere, while the graceful PlayGilded Lamp of the Cosmos exemplifies the best of their psychedelic folk ballads. (Note: Big Beats re-release of Behold And See omits PlayVisions of Your Reality. In addition, it liberally edits other cuts, and thus should not be considered a true re-release.) Upon release of the second album, Ian Bruce-Douglas quit Ultimate Spinach and a new band was formed with Barbara Hudson as the only original member. Tony Scheuan, Ted Myers, Mike Levine and Jeff Baxter (future session man for Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers) were also added. A third album (Ultimate Spinach III) was recorded in 1969. This album is inferior to the two before it, largely leaving behind the psychedelic effects that characterised the Bruce-Douglas period and developing a generic sound more reminiscent of such acts as The Byrds, The Monkees and the 68-era The Beach Boys. In 1970 the band reformed with no original members and continue to this day, generally performing in the Oregon area. The new group have released several independent albums such as Sacrifice of the Moon: Instrumental Music of Ultimate Spinach (2006). This band has always remained underground and in recent years Bruce-Douglas has derided its existence. Years later Bruce-Douglas created Azlbrax, with whom he released In the Valley of the Shadow (Intergalactic, 1988).
