Obama wants this tax dodger to be our Treasury Secretary because he is so bright and knowledgeable about our financial system, and yet he can't even figure out his own tax liability, what a joke. Obama's press secretary said: He's dedicated his career to our country and served with honor, intelligence and distinction. That service should not be tarnished by honest mistakes, which, upon learning of them, he quickly addressed. That is a load of B.S. He didn't pay the $34,000 to the IRS until one day before being announced as Obamas nominee for Treasurer. I can only think of two reasons why he waited so long to pay his overdue taxes. The first is that he never intended to pay them at all. He was going to wait and see if he could somehow get out of it. He waited until the last day just encase Obama changed his mind and decided not to nominate him. The other possible reason is that he is incompetent, and can't figure out the simplest parts of our tax code. So now we are either going to have a tax cheat, or an incompetent fool as the Treasurer of our country, which do you prefer? I prefer neither. To me he is now tainted, and I do not trust him. I'm confident that in a nation of over 300,000 million people, we can find someone of integrity fill that position. Jbranstetter04 Obama Advisers 'Confident' of Geithner's Confirmation Despite Tax 'Mistakes' Top advisers to Barack Obama said Sunday they are confident that Timothy Geithner will be confirmed as treasury secretary despite Geithner's recent admission that he failed to pay $34,000 in back taxes while working for the International Monetary Fund. Incoming White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called the treasury secretary-nominee's tax problems "embarrassing but honest mistakes." "I don't think Mr. Geithner has a cavalier attitude toward paying his taxes at all," Gibbs said on "FOX News Sunday." "Mr. Geithner said this was embarrassing. His accountant told him he didn't have further tax liabilities. He's made amends for those mistakes," he said. Geithner paid some of the taxes in 2006 after an IRS audit discovered the discrepancy for the years 2003 and 2004. But it was not until Obama tapped him to head the Treasury that he paid back most of the taxes, incurred in 2001 and 2002. Gibbs said a consensus exists among both Democrats and Republicans that Geithner "has the intelligence and the experience to do this job, that he's somebody who's dedicated to public service and is the right person to steer this economy and lead the Department of Treasury." Senior adviser David Axelrod said Geithner made a common mistake in not paying his self-employment taxes for money he earned from 2001 to 2004 while working for the IMF and said the public should have confidence in the treasury secretary-pick. "He's corrected it," Axelrod said Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "He is precisely the kind of person we need in the Treasury right now. And I think, when people get to know him -- and he's going to testify this week -- I think he's going to inspire great confidence," he said. Axelrod said he is "confident" Geithner will be appointed at his confirmation hearing on Wednesday. Senator Boxer didn't see Mr. Alford sitting in the witness chair as someone with a viewpoint to have a debate with. She saw an African-American man that opposed her, and proceeded to then cite a NAACP resolution and a 100 Black Men of Atlanta endorsement. Mr. Alford rightly called Boxer on her racial condescension, which clearly flustered her. Note at the end of the clip where she responds to his anger as an Army veteran as saying she married a veteran, as if that's supposed to somehow protect her with that constiuency group, too.
