This was our first try at Stand Up Paddleboarding...SUP...on snow. It was actually really fun. A SUP is the cadillac of snow sleds. The best part is the ability to use a paddle to propel yourself faster and for steering. Steering a SUP while sliding down a mountain is alot like steering a board while on a wave. This SUP in particular is made by Stride Stand Up Paddleboards. Sunshine Coast Paddlers have not had an all craft downwind Ocean race since the Point To Point race in the late '90s. Put together by Kirk Jarrott and Shane Dalziel in just under 4 weeks, it drew paddlers from as far a way as NSW. When the paddling community come together like this it's awesome, what a fun race.

Six men set out to travel 300 miles in a Hawaiian outrigger sailing canoe. They were racing in the annual Everglades Challenge run by the Water Tribe organization. They didn't win the race, but this was a fun piece that I put together for them before the race to advertise the adventure travel blog they were to keep along the way. Molly's Send-off Party

August 22nd was the big day to celebrate Molly's life. Lots of people helped to plan and make sure Molly's party was the biggest, best party we could throw for her, and it happened to fall on what would have been her 6th birthday. We didn't know what to expect with Hurricane Bill on the way, but everything turned out perfectly. A traditional Hawaiian paddle out ceremony was planned to celebrate Molly's life. By 6:45 people were already arriving, and when the event kicked off there were probably around 800 people on the beach. It was a humbling showing of community. The day started off with some moving words from Ralph Fatello and then Buck, talking about Molly, the history behind the paddle out tradition, and about the incredible community in Hampton, NH. While the crowd was organized, flowers were placed on all the surfboards laid on the beach. Lead up until, and during the speaking, it was eerily quiet. When it was time to head out, people grabbed their boards and took the flowers with them (mostly in their teeth) and few people had leis as well. The paddle out took place in the little cove in front of the Fish Shacks, at the north end of the Wall towards the bath house and Cinnamon Rainbows. This area was mellow enough that even with some hurricane swell it was an easy paddle out, and lots of groms were able to paddle out and join in. The goal was to have everyone form in the shape of a heart, found in Molly's logo, with the kids closer to the beach to make it a little easier for them. It was awesome how many kids took part. Meighan and Keiran were in an outrigger that was paddled out into the center of the heart, with a pink Molly flag hanging from the outrigger. About 300 people paddled out, and it was incredibly organized quiet, not what you'd normally expect with 300 people around you in the water. Waves were calm, and as things got going the morning fog lifted and the sky cleared up as soon as everyone was in motion. At this point, it turned into one of the most spiritual, emotional events many of us have been to. Ralph said some words, each of them followed by 300 hoots, each pass getting louder and louder. After some more words, people started adding their thoughts. Because the event took place on Molly's sixth birthday, someone yelled out "Happy birthday, Molly" which turned into the entire heart singing happy birthday to her, easily audible from the beach. There were lots of cheers, lots of hoots, lots of tears, and even a few laughs. At the end of the ceremony, Buck and Meighan threw their flowers into the water, followed by the rest of the crowd, leaving an ocean full of flowers to paddle through to come back in. www.mollyrowlee.com

DANA NINE MAN RACE MEN

In outrigger canoe racing there are three season. First the IRONMAN season, long distance race of about 12 miles. The IRONMAN races will have the same six paddlers for the duration of the race. The sprint season where teams will race less than 2-miles or about 2000 meters. This race is the first race of the 9MAN races. Where at all times there will be six paddlers in the racing canoe, and three paddlers on a fallowing power boat. Racers will change in and out of the canoe from the water while the canoe is moving. Fresh paddlers will do a pull-up, fro the water into the racing canoe while at the same time, the paddlers preparing to rest will jump out of the canoe. Changes take place on intervals of no less than 5 min and no more than 30. Racing canoes will lose valuable time making frequent changes, but could stand the risk of running tired in a race that is 2-6 hrs long. In this race there the Imua the winner battled with team California for more than half the race before opening to a lead of three minutes. Lanakila, Dana Point, and Hui Waa battled for third place for three fourths of the course. This was the first time Imua has won a nine man race in 20 years! The team from Hui waa traveled 500 miles to compete with So Cal's finest and came in Third overall second in there division!. many thanks to the escort boat and camera boat drivers. NAC (2:31:55) and Lanakila (2:32:44) go head to head from start the the final turn, the entire side by side. A great race between to powerhouse teams. Hano Hano in a strong third. NAC 2 and Marina go for at battling for 4th and Marina 2 and Lanakila 2 race head to head for 6th and 7th. For the coed we fallowed Imua from the Imua escort boat. One note the Lanakila 1 escort boat broke down so NAC and Lanakila ran changes from the same power boat, with Billy Whitford at the Helm. While the two battle on the water off they are the best of friends! So seeing them share an escort boat, Well it looked fun ! I was filming from an open bow boat, with both and underwater housing, and a Boom pole cam. While Cody Quirarte operated hand held. Brett Kotheimer, was with the Imua Coed crew. In Long Distance outrigger Canoe racing Paddlers will jump out of the canoe while the fresh paddler waits in the water untill the canoe approches. Getting out of the canoe is easy! (JUMP) getting in the canoe requires split second timing and the ability to do a fast pull up dip and kick with the feet. All of that and the canoe is racing at you at speeds of 8 to 14 miles an hour. The go pro is a res of 512x384 pixels and is an aspect ratio of 4x3 so it is much smaller than Dv res. Hd for web is 1280x720 so I used a software that helps both stretch and scale the image to into a 720p frame. Yes that is who you think it climbing into seat 3

The Big Salad Corporation is proud to present a movie capturing the epic race between the Mooloolaba & Northcliffe Open Men at this years annual Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup. A 42km race around three of the Whitsunday Islands on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Both teams broke the previous race record by 10 minutes coming in 1st and 2nd place. I'm on board the escort boat of Team Mooloolaba amongst all the action.

6-person Outrigger canoe race off the california coast at Ventura Harbor. This a race put on By Southern California Outrigger Racing Association, and Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Team. The race is a triangle course starting at the Harbor mouth. First heading Northwest up the coast. From there turning out to sea. The second turn was about 40 min for first place lanakila. The final turn is a red harbor marker . The footage was shot from the water by myself in an Epic housing with an HV30 and a .65 wide lens. Thanks to Billy Whitford droping me off at each of the three turns. There is only footage of the mens race this time. I do not know the official results for this race. The Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Voyaging Society leaves on July 8th to complete the last link in a 1400 mile paddle across the Hawaiian Island chain. Paddling to a point 50 miles offshore the Kure Atoll in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands Marine Monument, the Voyagers will spend 5 days and nights on the surface of the sea, building friendships, connecting with ancient ways, and experiencing the mana of the ocean. Soul Fabric Films will be there to document it all.
