Meet russian chicks now! lol http://www.signuptoday.org Operation Odyssey Dawn: USS Barry launches a Tomahawk cruise missile toward Libya. Photograph: US Navy 7.19am: Let's recap some of the developments overnight. • American and European warplanes and ships have been bombing Libyan bases and positions of Muammar Gaddafi's military. There have been 110 cruise missiles fired, according to Britain and the US, and one large airbase alone is reported to have been hit with 40 bombs from an American stealth bomber. Meanwhile aircraft continue to arrive at Mediterranean bases from allied countries including Canada, Denmark and Spain. • Libyan state TV has said there are 48 dead and 150 wounded from the attacks. Some reports suggest pro-Gaddafi fighters have been removing bodies from morgues of people who died in previous clashes and placing them at locations bombed by the allies to make it look like civilians have been hit. • Condemnation of the attacks has come from China and Russia - who abstained from the UN security council vote approving military action against Libya. Both countries are routinely opposed to foreign military intervention in any country. The Arab League also called for a ceasefire, and the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, led a chorus of protest by Libya's Latin American allies. • Gaddafi is reported to be holed up at the highly fortified Aziziya military compound where he lives in Tripoli, surrounded by thousands of loyalists who appear to have either offered themselves as a human shield or are looking for protection themselves. By telephone the Libyan dictator warned on state television that there would be chaos across the Mediterranean and North Africa because of the attacks on his country. 6.54am: A cheeky tweet that's been doing the rounds as one of Gaddafi's close apparatchiks laps up some luxury in neighbouring Tunisia.

FIGHTER Jet Shot Down by Libyan Rebels
uploaded by cazyblood3 at youtube.com
TRIPOLI, March 19 (Xinhua) -- A fighter plane was shot down in the rebel-controlled Libyan city of Benghazi Saturday morning, pan- Arab Al-Jazeera TV reported. A plane was heard flying overhead, which was pretty close to the center of Benghazi, and then it was hit down in flames, Al- Jazeera quoted witnesses as saying. Meanwhile, witnesses said that an artillery bombardment hit the center of Benghazi on Saturday, said Al-Jazeera, adding troops loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi have entered outskirts of Benghazi. In the meanwhile, thousands of Libyans were fleeing the western outskirts of the rebel stronghold of Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, said Al-Jazeera. In a statement posted by the official Jana news agency on Saturday, the Libyan government said its armed forces responded in self defense to attacks from the rebels. The government also said the rebels violated the UN resolution by using a helicopter and a fighter jet to bomb Libyan armed forces. The statement, however, did not say the Libyan air force bombed Benghazi nor confirm the downing of a war plane over the rebel- held city. As it is hard for journalists to get access to the frontline, the Libyan government's accusations against the rebels can not be independently verified. Libya authorities on Friday declared to halt all military operations in line with a UN resolution that imposed a no-fly zone over the North African country, while the rebels accused that the attacks of the pro-Gaddafi forces have continued. Meanwhile, some world powers are preparing to militarily support the UN-backed no-fly zone despite Tripoli's ceasefire declaration. In Paris, an international summit is being held Saturday, grouping UN chief Ban Ki-moon, leaders or high-level decision- makers from several Western and Arab countries and representatives of the European Union, the Arab League and the African Union. Attendees are expected to discuss detailed plans to enforce Thursday's UN Security Council resolution on the Libya situation at the conference, which is being hosted by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a leading advocate of military intervention. The resolution "demands the immediate establishment of a ceasefire and a complete end to violence and all attacks against, and abuses of, civilians," and authorizes the imposition of a no- fly zone over Libya. NATO ambassadors are also expected to meet over the weekend to fix details about the alliance's participation after they reached consensus Friday on supporting the no-fly zone.

France - Leads Military Assault Against Libyan Military - World Follows
uploaded by SurvivalWithBushcraf at youtube.com
France - Leads Military Assault Against Libyan Military - World Follows NICE, France -- In the first military action since the UN no-fly zone was approved, French fighter jets roared today over Benghazi, Tripoli, destroying their first target, President Nicolas Sarkozy said. The Mirage warplanes took off from a military base in Saint-Dizier in the east of France and at 4:45 p.m. GMT hit and destroyed four pro-Gadhafi tanks. It was the start of an Allied air strike, in concert with the Arab League, to prevent Gadhafi forces from further attacks on rebel-held Benghazi. About two hours after the French strikes, the U.S. launched Tomahawk cruise missiles against Gadhafi's air defense. British and Canadian forces were also set to join the coalition effort, though Pentagon sources said the U.S. took the lead after France pulled the trigger. Several armored vehicles were also reportedly hit in the strike. "A lot of blood has been spilled but we hope it's not too late," Mohamed Massin, who works with the rebels, told AOL News via Skype from Tripoli today. "I think we can win now. We needed help." The French air strikes began shortly after pro-Gadhafi forces shot down an opposition jet above Benghazi Saturday morning. Dramatic footage of the pilot ejecting from the plane just a few hundred feet above the ground was shown on Al Jazeera television. He did not survive. "It's a grave decision we've had to take," Sarkozy told reporters after an emergency meeting in Elysee Palace in Paris with 22 world leaders, including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Arab and European leaders.
