Images Of Western Australia's Wine Region
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
I was given two days to come up with some imagery of the wine region in Western Australia. It was a big ask, not to mention this time included editing the footage into something meaningful. I have mixed feelings about the result. I made things a lot harder for myself when one afternoons shooting was unusable when I made a poor choice of lenses. It's obvious this is something that needs to be completed over a year to take in the changes due to the four seasons. I had limited footage at my disposal, so getting a two minute clip together was pretty tough. Hope you like it for what it is. Images of New Zealand
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
These images are a snapshot of a recent family holiday to the south island of New Zealand. They were taken over a 11 day period during our travels. All the images were captured with the Canon XHA1 with a Letus 35 Extreme bolted to the front. I used only one lens which was a Canon L series f1.4 24mm. I had a 70mm-200mm at my disposal but as I didn't have a support bracket to hold it up I was scared the extra weight was going to snap the adapter off the front of my camera. Not a good idea. I took about 3 hours of footage which doesn't sound like much but it was a family holiday after all. Nearly forgot. The music was by Hans Zimmer "The Thin Red Line". Man I love that music. View some of Christians stills of New Zealand at www.christianfletcher.com.au make a comment on his blog he loves that stuff.
Light Minded - Stirling Ranges
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
This clip is a sneak peek into a project that is underway based around four photographers and their passion for photography and the enviroment in which they work. It was shot at the Stirling Ranges, four hours from Perth, Western Australia. The footage was taken on my Canon XHA1 and Letus extreme. Some still images from that trip have been included in this presentation. The music is by Nine Inch Nails.
Roadtesting the new Canon EOS 5D
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
This is my first attempt using the new Canon 5D in video mode. The camera has amazing high def picture quality and great color capture. Most of the footage in this clip is straight from the camera apart from some stylizing in FCP. Low light capabilities are not as amazing as first reported especially when shooting video, but it kicks my XHA1's proverbial @#^*. The biggest drawback is not being in full control of the aperture when shooting video. All that lovely depth of field disappears when you hit that record button. Cant understand why Canon haven't picked up on this. Maybe its a technical issue that cant be changed. We are toying with trialing a fully manual Carl Zeiss lens with it. Stay tuned. www.christianfletcher.wordpress.com www.christianfletcher.com.au
Images of the Leeuwin National Park
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
Footage taken on a quick trip down to the lower south west region of Western Australia. We stayed at Hamelin Bay. A little place consisting of a caravan park and a boat ramp. It is central to some of the most beautiful parts of the South West although can be a bit cold even in summer as you can see. All footage was shot with the Canon 5D mk2 and a 85mm f1.2 canon lens. That was because my brother was hogging all the other lenses we own. Saved wasting time changing lenses. Music is from "Passion" by Peter Gabriel. Hope you like it. Images of Australia's Southwest

All of this footage was shot at Wyadup Rocks 10 minutes south of Yallingup in the Southwest of Western Australia. It was a beautiful evening with awesome clouds and the odd bolt of lightning. I was shooting with my brother Christian. He was taking stills and I was shooting vid all with the Canon 5D mk 2 and various Canon lenses ranging from 24mm f/1.6 to 400mm f/5.6. One of Christians stills features on this video. You can see more at christianfletcher.wordpress.com or www.christianfletcher.com.au Music is from "Passion" by Peter Gabriel.
Images Of Karijini National Park
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
Christian and I found a couple of days spare to visit Karijini National Park in the North West of Western Australia after a shoot for Rio Tinto. We picked up a straggler in the form of Mark Stothard from northstarcruises.com.au Christian, Mark and I braved the excessive heat and extremely dangerous conditions to capture some of Karijini's awesome beauty. All types of equipment was used on those two days including, Canon 5D Mk2's, 1Ds Mk3's, Canon TS-E 24, TS-E 45mm tilt shift lenses, Canon 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, 300mm, 400mm etc.etc. A special thanks to Matt at Canon and Ben at Team Digital for supplying some of the gear used in this production. Christian is a bit slow so some of his amazing stills haven't reached his blog yet but keep tuned on christianfletcher.wordpress.com and www.christianfletcher.com.au Music again was from "Passion" by Peter Gabriel. (Thanks Pete)
Images Of Western Australia's Kimberley
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
Sorry guys, this is a bit of a long one. If you start the movie and then read my ramble it should be ready to watch. I was fortunate enough to be invited aboard possibly the greatest adventure cruise boat in Australia if not the world. The boat for those of you who have not heard of it is the "TRUE NORTH" and it circumnavigates the Australian continent visiting some of the most remote coastline in Australia and also ventures past these waters to many unseen Pacific Island destinations. "TRUE NORTH" is designed for pure adventure whilst providing a 5 star luxury platform for those hours not spent diving off spectacular coral atolls, catching elusive Barramundi, swimming in pristine waterholes, or taking in a cultural experience first hand. All these things are achieved by the incredible design of the "True North" with its shallow water ability and possibly the coolest thing ever, the Bell 407 helicopter. I can only speak of my personal experience on the East Kimberley expedition, and from the moment I landed on the heli deck I was in awe of this amazing vessel. True North cruises effortlessly through the maze of waterways of the Kimberley placing you in the most amazing locations to maximize your experience. For those locations that can only be visited by helicopter True North's skillful pilot Rob would place you precariously on the edge of an amazing waterfall for a picnic lunch like no other or take you to a waterhole full of Barra that have never seen a fisherman. The icing on the cake for me was the crew of the True North. Without a doubt these guy's and gal's are a credit to the whole experience of adventure, luxury, comfort, and endless excitement. With 1 crew member for every 2 passengers every need was covered and nothing was left wanting. I have never seen such an awesome place as the Kimberley and I hope you can get a small sense of what it is like to visit here from my video. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I must thank Mark and Craig for placing their faith in me to capture some amazing footage for them. I hope it can help in spreading the word about this amazing country and this truly unique experience. "GO WILD IN STYLE" and check the boat for yourself at www.northstarcruises.com.au For those of you interested more in how this was shot I used the following gear. 2 x Canon 5D MK2, Canon Prime lenses 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, 400mm, Miller Tripod, Lee Filter Kit with grads, Fostex field recorder, Rode Mics, (Sorry about the audio in the fishing segment. That was straight from the camera as I wanted to catch a fish so I didn't set up proper sound.) Edited in Final Cut Pro Music from "The Rabbit Proof fence" by Peter Gabriel "The Thin Red Line" by Hans Zimmer These guys know how to write film scores. For those of you who are interested check out our website www.christianfletcher.com.au christianfletcher.wordpress.com Thanks for being patient to wait and watch this. I think it is worth it. Mike
5D MK2 Firmware Update Test Footage
uploaded by Michael Fletcher at vimeo.com
Canon have done what they should of done before the 5D Mark 2 came out, that is give us full control over, aperture, and ISO settings. The camera with the new firmware is now the real deal giving us the power to style our shots how we want them. It was the second most exciting thing that came out from Canon, the first being the camera itself. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN'T DOWNLOADED IT YET DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!! This is some footage before and after the firmware update. You cant tell the difference because I was tricking the camera before the update by using the "Old Twist The Lens On The Camera Trick" I don't have to worry about dropping the lens off the front anymore. THANK YOU CANON..... NOW GIVE US REAL VIDEO CAMERA WITH THE 5D TECHNOLOGY...... Luv Fletch www.christianfletcher.com.au
