Fleetwood Mac Albatross.
uploaded by BertM87 at youtube.com
"Albatross" is a guitar-based instrumental by Fleetwood Mac, released as a single in 1969. The piece was composed by Peter Green. The composition suggests a relaxing sea setting, with cymbals imitating the sound of waves and a dreamy solo from Green's guitar. It contains only two chords, Emaj7 and F#m, and could be seen as an early ambient work. It is often assumed that Green used his Les Paul but he said it was his Fender Stratocaster, as there is subtle use of the vibrato bar. The Les Paul that Green used in Fleetwood Mac has a nasal tone like that achieved in the in-between positions of a Stratocaster, and heard in the song. Green had been working on the piece for some time before the addition to the band of 18 year old guitarist Danny Kirwan. Slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer was not generally inclined to work with Green, who had felt unable to realise the overall effect that he wanted. With Kirwan's input, Green completed the piece and it was recorded just two months after Kirwan joined, without Spencer present. Kirwan's instrumental "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues" was chosen for the B-side in most territories. Albatross has been re-released many times as a single in various countries, with many different B-sides. It has been suggested that the piece is associated with the metaphorical use of the word albatross to mean a wearisome burden. The use of the word "Albatross" to mean an encumbrance around somebody's neck is an allusion to Coleridge's poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (1798). It is unclear whether Fleetwood Mac intended the title to reference this meaning or if it refers to the bird; but the title of the album it appears on, The Pious Bird of Good Omen, alludes to and quotes from the Coleridge poem. This composition is one of only a few tracks by the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac that is included on their later "greatest hits" and "best of" compilations. Many of their compilations only focus on hits from the 1970s and 1980s. However, other compositions from that period have gone on to become classic recordings in the hands of other performers - "Black Magic Woman" as recorded by Santana for example. Another example, "Oh, Well" has gone on to become a classic rock standard. "Albatross" is the only Fleetwood Mac composition with the distinction of having inspired a Beatles song, "Sun King" from 1969's Abbey Road.

Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman
uploaded by eaglerocktv at youtube.com
Roy Orbison began his career at Sun Studios alongside Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley but took a very different route to rock 'n' roll success. Orbison's strength was his unique vocal style, which combined perfectly with the dramatic love stories told by his songs. From his debut on Sun Records in 1956 Orbison at first struggled but went on to score a string of hit singles on Monument Records in the 60's following his breakthrough with Only The Lonely. Other hits included Running Scared, Crying, In Dreams, It's Over and his #1 Oh, Pretty Woman, all of which are included here. Despite a dip in his career in the 70's, Orbison came back to prominence in the 80's as part of the Traveling Wilburys in which he lined up alongside George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. This in turn lead to a reinvigorated solo career cut short only by his early death in 1988. The show on this DVD was shot for the US TV series Austin City Limits in August 1982. It contains all of his best known songs and has been remixed into 5.1 sound from the original master tapes. It is an excellent concert that holds the audience enthralled from start to finish. "Roy Orbison is the greatest singer in the world." -- Elvis Presley "He was and always will be one of the greats of rock 'n' roll." -- Sir Paul McCartney To order this DVD from Amazon if you are in the UK, please click here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000FGFTL4/?tag=wwweaglerockc-21 To order this DVD from amazon if you are in the US, please click here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006SKUH/?tag=eaglrockente-20
Johnny Cash - I Walk The Line
uploaded by eaglerocktv at youtube.com
The late Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in American music in the post war period. He managed to combine elements of folk, rock 'n' roll and country, which together with his distinctive voice and guitar style, created an instantly recognisable sound. 1994 was to prove to be Cash's only appearance at the Montreux Festival. The "Man In Black" had just released his acclaimed American Recordings album and his European tour took in Montreux on July 5. This track is taken from the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux".
Johnny Cash - Boy Named Sue
uploaded by eaglerocktv at youtube.com
Johnny Cash, the Man In Black, is one of the most influential musical figures of the last 50 years. His deep, resonant voice and sparse guitar style have given him an instantly recognisable sound that manages to sit somewhere between folk, rock and country. He has been awarded ten Grammy Awards and was the youngest ever inductee into the Country Hall of Fame. His music is as relevant today as it has ever been. The concert on this album (which has also been released on CD by Eagle Records) was recorded at the Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville in 1976. It is one of only two of his prison concerts that were filmed for broadcast. It features Cash with special guests Linda Ronstadt and Roy Clark performing a selection of their biggest hits such as Folsom Prison Blues, Orange Blossom Special, A Boy Named Sue and Ronstadts version of the Eagles Desperado. This song is taken from the Eagle Vision DVD "Johnny Cash - A Concert Behind Prison Walls"

You Don't Have To Say You Love Me When I said I needed you You said you would always stay It wasn't me who changed but you And now you've gone away Don't you see That now you've gone And I'm left here on my own That I have to follow you And beg you to come home? You don't have to say you love me Just be close at hand You don't have to stay forever I will understand Believe me, believe me I can't help but love you But believe me I'll never tie you down Left alone with just a memory Life seems dead and so unreal All that's left is loneliness There's nothing left to feel You don't have to say you love me Just be close at hand You don't have to stay forever I will understand Believe me, believe me You don't have to say you love me Just be close at hand You don't have to stay forever I will understand Believe me, believe me, believe me You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
