US authorities have charged a "troubled" 22-year-old man with the attempted assassination of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, two counts of first degree murder and two other counts of attempted murder in Tucson, Arizona.
Jared Lee Loughner allegedly launched a shooting rampage while Giffords, a 40-year-old democrat, was attending a meeting in a supermarket parking lot, killing six people and wounding 14 others.
A single bullet hit the left side of Gabrielle's brain, putting her in a state of a coma. Given the devastating wound, doctors said they were uncertain about the extent of brain damage she may have suffered.
John Roll, a US federal judge, and a 9-year-old girl were among those killed by Loughner. He was due to appear in court to face trial on Monday in Phoenix, the state's capital.

FINALLY, someone in the media takes Sheriff Dupnik of Pima County to task on his irrational, irresponsible comments he's been making since the tragic event in Tucson yesterday.
In his capacity as Sheriff, this man is COMPLETELY out of line voicing his opinion and/or political views, and this is the exact reason why most law enforcement agencies have Public Information Officers. This idiot cou More..ld possibly jeapordize the entire investigation, because the defense can reject any evidentiary investigation the Sheriff himself has done, as he's already stated his subjective opinion in this matter.
The Pima County Sheriff's Office should have their PIO out there talking to the media; not the Sheriff who is already involved in this investigation. Politics should NEVER EVER be a part of any horrific criminal act such as this...much less coming from the lead law enforcement officer himself.

Giffords Shooting Eyewitness Helped Subdue Suspect Jared Loughner

Suspected Tucson shooter Jared Lee Loughner was eventually taken down by three people -- a wounded woman who grabbed the magazine as Loughner allegedly tried to reload his gun and two men who tackled him in those few seconds.
A fourth man is being hailed as a hero, as well. Instead of running from the gunfire, Joe Zamudio ran toward it to help those in harm's way, including the people who were wrestling with Loughner.
Zamudio said he will never forget the gunman's face.
"I saw the side of his face and he was cold," Zamudio told 3TV's Kristien Harrington. "He didn't care. There was nothing we could say to him that's going to matter." Huh? Where am I?
