The Human Brain & Cybernetics
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Describes the human brain as a recursive set of cybernetic control systems. The role of synapses are explained as well as the genetic guidance of the brain's development. Some of the founding fathers of Cybernetics set the stage for the fantastic discoveries of neuroscience in the past thirty years. Brains are universal machines and much more.
What is Cybernetics?
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Different definitions of cybernetics according to its evolution from the art of the pilot in Greece to a new scientific paradigm that has changed the world significantly. Its famous fathers include Norbert Wiener, Gregory Bateson, Warren McCulloch, John Von Neuman, Ross Ashby, Stafford Beer, Heinz Von Foerster and others. Cybernetics, the science of control and communications in 1948, has been called the largest portion of the apple of knowledge.
Management Cybernetics & Chaos Theory
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Management Cybernetics is the science of effective organization. Despite its name, Chaos Theory centers on self-organizing systems. Cybernetics is expert in complexity. Chaotic systems are complex systems that can self-organize when key independent variables become synchronized through positive and negative feedback. The connection is clear. Management Cybernetics is interested in finding the invariant features of viable systems and self-organization from chaos is one of them. The border or edge of chaos is the thin border where information captures energy to reproduce the organization.
Feedback / Stafford Beer
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Stafford Beer, creator of the Viable System Model and founding father of Management Cybernetics explains feedback with the help of a model of a steam engine Watt Governor. Control is implicit not external to a system.
Ashby's Law of Requisite Variety and Autonomy / Stafford Beer // Javier Livas
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Stafford Beer explains the Law of Requisite Variety, also called Ashby's Law in honor of W.Ross Ashby his cybernetician friend. Beers ponders on the dangers of the inability to foresee the consequences of the variety explosion due to come in the future as everybody wants more and more autonomy.
Viable System Model

Brief explanation of the Viable System Model of Stafford Beer with modern and simple graphics. This video is taken from UNIVERSO KUBERNETES.
The Basis for the Viable System Model / Stafford Beer // Javier Livas
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Stafford Beer explains the basic thinking behind the creation of the Viable System Model. The stuff of management is complexity and variety is the scientific name used to quantify complexity. Amplifiers and filters allow managers to exercise control over the process and then over the environment. Beer evokes Hegel's thinking and the cybernetic paradigm which were mentioned in the first part of the conference also on YOUTUBE.
The Intelligent Organization Conference (Chapter 2 The Reductionist Trap) / Stafford Beer
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
Stafford Beer creator of Management Cybernetics explains how the Reductionist Paradigm traps us with its language. Organizations continue to teach the same type of structure not realizing that change is everywhere and that a new model and a new way of looking at things is necessary to escape the trap.

The Cybernetic Paradigm Part 2|2 Stafford Beer - Javier Livas
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
This is the second part of the beginning of the Conference called "The Intelligent Organization. Hear Stafford Beer explain the difference between the Reductionist Paradigm and the Cybernetic Paradigm. Presented in Monterrey Tec in March of 1990. Monterrey, Mexico.
The Financial Crisis & Cybernetics
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
The financial crisis is the result of violating cybernetic control laws. Bankers and government are not doing their job. The people pay for their mistakes.
Management Cybernetics: The Cybernetic State
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
The Cybernetic State is inevitable. We have everything to do it. We look the basic structure of the modern democratic state through the lens of Management Cybernetics and the Viable System Model. The teachings of Stafford Beer are applied to understanding the evolution of the State and the reason why Law, Economics and Politics are different aspects of the State. The Cybernetic State is not so much about computers as it is about following nature's rules. The influence of the Iroquois on the US Constitution is referenced.
Cybernetics vs Status Quo: Ideas from Stafford Beer

The search for the Law and Cybernetics connection leads me to Stafford Beer and his work. Ideas on how to reform government are explained to the Metaphorum Group created in his honor, during a meeting in St. Gallen in March of 2007.
Management Cybernetics & Redesigning Government
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
The Constitutional design of the US Government is in many ways obsolete. Several key assumptions of how things would work are no longer true. What does a new redesign look like? This is the answer from the viewpoint of Management Cybernetics and the Viable System Model. US Congress is replaced by citizens chosen for their knowledge and competence, not their ability to run political campaigns. Ideology is scrapped in favor of practical organizations. The country would run very smoothly with total transparency. ERRATA: Where it reads Inexistant should read nonexistent.
Law & Cybernetics
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
It took the arrival of Management Cybernetics to understand why Law has been such a difficult subject and so distant from the rest of science. Law is redefined as information and the State as a self-organizing system. Ashby's Law plays a major role in the definition of justice. Law has discovered on its own many of the lessons learned in Management Cybernetics but without using modern control laws and concepts.
Management Cybernetics: The Law of Requisite Variety
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
This video explains the most important Law of Control. The variety of the Regulator must match the variety of the System it regulates. This is called Ashby's Law. Most of Management Cybernetics depends on the fact that "only variety absorbs variety."
Management Cybernetics: science of effective organization
uploaded by JAVIERLIVAS at youtube.com
This video compares the traditional organization chart against the Viable System Model, the heart of management cybernetics developed by professor Stafford Beer. The first is used in authoritarian style. The second is a more participative democracy.
