The voice of the pilot during the last minutes of doomed Continental Airlines flight
3407 before it crashed in Clarence, near Buffalo, New York state can be heard in an
air traffic control recording obtained by the Telegraph.
The Colgan Air flight crashed, killing 49 people, in the suburbs of Buffalo at
10.20pm on Thursday night, just 5 miles from the runway. Clarence is located 20 miles
north-east of Buffalo.
The Daily Telegraph has obtained a recording of the air traffic controllers'
conversations with pilots in the area, amid fears that bad icy weather is affecting
planes.
The 31-minute recording features conversations between the cockpit, air traffic
control and other aircraft in the vicinity, following the 74-seat commuter jet's
take-off from Newark Airport in New Jersey.
A female voice in the cockpit of the plane, which was operated under a Continental
Airlines flight number, is heard informing authorities that her aircraft was turning
on approach to landing, and repeated instructions when told to maintain an altitude
of 2300 feet.
The air traffic controllers then tried to contact the pilots of the jet for 12
minutes before apparently realising that the plane - Colgan 3407 - had gone down.
17 minutes and 20 seconds into the recording, air traffic control officers start
calling for the plane, requesting the assistance of a Delta Airlines flight 1998
pilot in trying to locate the aircraft.
At 20 minutes and 27 seconds, authorities are heard requesting emergency services'
help to find out 'if anything was on the ground".
"This aircraft was 5 miles out, all of a sudden we have no response from that
aircraft", the controller declares.
21 minutes and 45 seconds into the recording, the control tower informs a JetBlue
Airlines pilot: "...apparently we have an emergency, I'll have to get back to you".

Continental Connections Flight 3407 crashed late Thursday night (10:20 pm) in Buffalo, destroying a home and rocking the neighborhood with loud booms and orange skies.
22-year-old Jill Wielinski and her mom Karen made it out alive, but a less fortunate 3rd unidentified (as of now) person perished along with the 49 others on board.
The craft was a Q400 Bombardier Turboprop model operated by Colgan ...gate..something. It's a shame they were just 5 minutes from landing at Buffalo Niagra Int'l Airport when it apparently malfunctioned and careened into the home of Karen and daughter Jill Wielinski, who escaped somehow, but lost 1 other currently unidentified person which leaves the death toll at 50.

Buffalo Crash-Recovery Not Rescue
All 48 people on board a passnger flight have been killed after it crashed into a house in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York state. One person on the ground also died. The emergency services say it is now a recovery, not rescue operation.
One of those believed to be on board the plane was Beverly Eckert, widow of Sean Rooney who was killed in the 9/11 att More..acks on New York.
Her sister Sue Bourque told the Buffalo News that Ms Eckert had been travelling home to mark what would have been her husband's 58th birthday.
"We know she was on that plane," she told the newspaper, although she had not received official confirmation, "and now she's with him."

One of the passengers aboard the plane that crashed into a house 10 miles from Buffalo, New York, airport late on Thursday was a 9/11 widow who had questioned the official account of the attacks, sued the government and consistently lobbied for an Investigative Commission.
Beverly Eckert was flying to the city for a celebration of what would have been her husband Sean Rooney's 58th birthday, reports the Press Association. Mr Rooney died on the 98th floor of the World Trade Center's south tower.
She was among the 44 passengers and four crew on board the Continental Connection flight operated by Colgan Air when it crashed in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence Center.
After 9/11, Ms Eckert refused to accept a cash settlement as compensation and instead sued the government.
"I am suing because unlike other investigative avenues my lawsuit requires all testimony be given under oath and fully uses powers to compel evidence." Eckert wrote in December 2003 in a statement entitled My Silence Cannot Be Bought.
"The victims fund was not created in a spirit of compassion. Lawmakers capped the liability of the airlines at the behest of lobbyists who descended on Washington while the September 11 fires still smoldered." she wrote.
Other September 11 relatives who accepted settlements forfeited their right to sue the airlines, airports, security companies, or other US organizations that could have been faulted for negligence and inadequate security measures. This ensured that very little detail of the attacks emerged outside of the government appointed 9/11 Commission.
