Police Brutality in Reclaim Power March in Copenhagen

December 16th, 2009, thousands gather to participate in the Reclaim Power march in Copenhagen Denmark. The idea behind the march is to meet delegates who were walking out from the Bella Center, the location of the United Nation's Climate Change Conference (COP15), and host a people's assembly outside. The peaceful march, an act of civil disobedience, turned violent when police attacked protestors pushing to get over the Bella Center fence to meet with delegates from the walk out.

On December 14, hundreds of protesters tried to disrupt the Copenhagen Climate Conference in thier demand for "CLIMATE JUSTICE". Police said 230 protesters were detained. They were frustrated by the breakdown in talks which have resulted in a deadlock.

The 16th of December climate activists and civil society, mainly from the Global South, were marching to the Bella Center to criticize the lack of democracy and transparency of the COP15. They were brutally attacked by the police forces who used pepperspray, teargas and sticks to intimidate and physically harm the people.

December 16th in Copenhagen the Danish police responded to a peaceful protest outside of the United Nations Climate Change Summit to showcase that many of those who are at risk to the impact of climate change are being forced out of the discussion and the decision making process.
