This and the following program look at the lives of young Australian Muslims in the aftermath of the lunacy at Cronulla a few years ago. And while each is flawed in its own way, they're both worth a look.
The focus here is on Mecca, a devout 20-year-old Muslim woman who wants to become a surf lifesaver at Cronulla Beach. Not easy when her religion requires her to wear the hijab and not touch men outside her immediate family.
Along comes a friend who designs the "Burqini" (a great idea) and allows Mecca to join 20 other young lads and lassies at Cronulla to go through their paces and prove, as one chap puts it, that wogs can swim.

Een bekeerde Nederlandse moslima werd in Zwolle uit het zwembad gestuurd, omdat ze zwom in een boerkini. Zie videoverslag. Bij de importeur van de kleding in Meppel is het een gekkenhuis: de boerkini's vliegen de winkel uit.
"We hebben het ontzettend druk. Het lijkt wel of iedereen een boerkini wil hebben. Daarnaast geef ik al heel de dag interviews. Maar al die aandacht voor de boerkini is goed. Er bestaan nog te veel misverstanden over deze badkleding, die we nu uit de weg kunnen ruimen."
Een gehaaste eigenaresse Dorelies Woortman van Woortman Sportswear in Meppel heeft nauwelijks tijd om al weer een journalist te woord te staan, maar het moet maar even. Volgens haar leven er onder de bevolking vaak rare ideeën over de boerkini (ook wel geschreven als burqini).
"Mensen denken dan meteen aan een allesverhullende boerka. Maar daar heeft het niets mee te maken. Een boerkini is gewoon een badpak, dat uit normale badstof is gemaakt. Het bedekt alleen meer van het lichaam, omdat moslima's dat op grond van hun geloof prettiger vinden."
