The Forest
uploaded by Arnold Kopff at vimeo.com
This film provides a glimpse of a small pocket of Blue Mountains National Park known as Leura Forest. The descent into Leura Forest, hidden deep in the Jamison Valley, can be made via a number of very steep walking tracks. For instance, the aptly named Grand Staircase has over 900 steps. Most of the tracks start near Echo Point, quite close to the famous geological formation known as the "Three Sisters". Leura Forest is a combination of dry sclerophyll forest and enclaves of rain forest that cling to the gullies formed by creeks that carry rain water even deeper into the valley. The forest is populated by numerous Eucalypt varieties - nearly all of them with a single straight trunk of impressive proportions - as well as lots of enormous umbrella-like tree ferns. But perhaps the most wonderful aspect of Leura Forest is the cacophony generated by the innumerable bellbirds that inhabit it. As you will hear, these birds have a most distinctive call - and when youre deep in the forest, shaded and enclosed by the canopy of the towering trees - the noise from these quite small birds is unbelievable in its intensity. The occasional buzzing sounds you'll also hear are from bush flies - in the Australian bush there's no escaping them. Locals will have you believe that some are almost the size of small birds ;-) To find your way to Leura Forest, you need first to make the breathtaking descent into the Jamison Valley. At the bottom, take the Federal Pass track until you reach the Dardanelles Pass fork. After that, simply head towards the deafening bellbird chorus. The film was captured in high definition PAL using a Sony HDR-FX1E camera and was composed using the Panavision aspect ratio. It was post processed using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
Sydney Opera House, New South Wales, Australia
uploaded by Intrepid Berkeley Explorer at vimeo.com
The Sydney Opera House, my favorite modern building, magnificent from any angle, as it protrudes into Sydney Harbor. I stalked it from all sides, with some of the best pictures taken from the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Here is an edited segment of "Kangaroo From Kakadu an Intrepid Berkeley Explorer free video. It features a grand Australian safari, with the wildlife and scenery only found down under; plus Aboriginal dance, music & art, Uluru (Ayers Rock), the Sydney Opera House, & much more. To enjoy all of this film, plus over 30 more free, non-commercial, streaming travel videos from every continent, plus still pictures, please click on: http://www.geocities.com/intrepidberkeleyexplorer/Video.html With any modem you can view the still picture gallery from this trip at: http://www.geocities.com/intrepidberkeleyexplorer/Page2.html

I had to go to the deep suburbs again, so it was suggested that I take the ferry this time, then a taxi. Sweet suggestion. Fun, cold ride.
