(Megirat Hametsiot) "Treasure trove" / Jacky Barkan I often ask myself: "Jacky, how does it happen to you again?..." Whilst searching for a missing letter, I examine a drawer and to my surprise, I discover a brown envelope with an unfamiliar handwriting. At the top is written: "Photos do not fold". I turn the envelope to the other side, and I read at the back: Posted by: Joshua Lurie Kibbutz Nir - David (Tel-Amal) Post box Gilboa 19150. I sit still for a minute or two, alone, quietly, giving time to the memory mechanism, then I open the envelope and I discover inside a "treasure"! My name is Jacky Barkan I was born on the 8/8/1938. I came to Israel from Belgium On September 5, 1949, on board the NEGBA ship directly to the port of Haifa, Bat galim. I prepared this accompanied video in particular, and I invite you to watch it as a small part of whom I was at a time and who I am. In 1994, at a "Tomer" group gathering in Kibbutz Nir-David, a fellow, friend named Uri Plas from Holland came along too. He found me via the website "Lost Childhood" whilst watching my film "1943 Lost Year," a film about my childhood during the Holocaust in Belgium. He was excited, and he surprised me when he sent me his life story as a child during the Holocaust in Holland, which I did not know until today. I invite you to watch. Yours, Jacky Barkan.
